Centennial Celebration commemorates 100th birthday
The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences commemorated the 100th birthday of Conner Hall with a celebration April 11, 2008. The Conner Hall Centennial Celebration was held from 2 to 4 p.m. on the front lawn of the building that has long served as the administrative headquarters for the UGA CAES.
The event included the unveiling of a Conner Hall original watercolor by Athens artist Jill Leite. Leite specializes in landscape and architectural rendering and has captured several of UGA's most prominent and historic building in her collection. Limited edition giclee prints of the Conner Hall watercolor were available for purchase at the celebration.
Catering for the event was handled by Rock Eagle 4-H Center and included a special Conner Crunch ice cream flavor created in honor of Conner Hall.
Alumni, friends and special guests of UGA CAES gathered to rededicate the building that was erected in 1908. Georgia State Representative James T. Conner of Bartow County introduced the 1906 bill which led to the creation the Georgia State College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts and the construction of the building. First called Agricultural Hall, the building was named Conner Hall in 1923 in honor of Representative Conner.
The building was rededicated in 1976 following an extensive renovation project which included the addition of an elevator and concealed plumbing and heat and air systems.
