Agrosecurity
Agrosecurity Training for Poultry Producers
The potential threat of agricultural terrorism and the spread of a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in Europe and Asia make securing U.S. farms a top priority. Poultry farms are particularly vulnerable to these types of incidents because of the size and concentration of poultry farms in Georgia. Faculty of the Department of Poultry Science have developed a training notebook on methods and procedures to implement physical and biological security programs on poultry farms in Georgia. Training sessions are being conducted across Georgia for poultry producers using PowerPoint presentations in combination with the educational materials developed to provide poultry producers detailed information on maximizing protection of their flocks. To date, 15 training programs have been conducted with more than 600 participants. More trainings are scheduled and will continue into 2008.
