Urban Pest Management Extension
The Griffin Campus Urban Pest Management Program's primary focus is the extension of academic expertise and research-based information to a large, diverse client base that is both internal and external to the University. County Extension agents, Master Gardeners, homeowners and business owners seek advice and recommendations regarding pest management practices and options. The 8,000 employees of Georgia's 1,200 pest management firms need continuing education, pest management troubleshooting, and the provision of a trained and educated workforce. The program also serves a large multi-national pesticide industry dedicated to providing safe but effective chemistries, formulations and devices to protect structures and food. The program extends knowledge and training to each client group through results of an applied research program, written materials and recommendations, instructional seminars, media releases, web-based information, one-on-one consultations and topic-specific workshops. The program's efforts have resulted in the training and education of nearly 20,000 people. Written materials are recognized nationally on their scientific and educational content, and have set a standard of excellence in urban pest management.
