Food Safety

Operation EATERY

A collaborative was formed between the Macon-Bibb County Health Department, the Bibb County Cooperative Extension, the Houston County Cooperative Extension and the Houston County Health Department to provide food safety education to the food service industry in Bibb County and the other 12 counties in the North Central Health District. A grant for $48,000 was secured from the National Association of City and County Health Officials in 2003 to teach the nationally recognized food safety education class ServSafe® for Employees. As a result of the grant, these classes continue to be offered free to any food service worker in the health district. Operation EATERY trained 41 food service workers from the North Central Health District in two classes during the past year. These food service workers have the potential to safeguard the 14,439 meals they prepare daily. (2007)
