Paul Coverdell Agricultural Scholarship

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) is pleased to announce the Paul Coverdell Agricultural Scholarship. The scholarship, established by Georgia’s agricultural and industry leaders, is designed to serve as a lasting tribute to Senator Coverdell’s support of Georgia agriculture. Throughout Senator Coverdell’s career, he was an advocate for agricultural research, extension and teaching programs.

The scholarship is made available through the generous support of AGCO Corporation, an agricultural equipment company based in Duluth, Georgia and Merial, an animal health company with North American headquarters also in Duluth, Georgia.

How can this scholarship be used?

The scholarship will provide $1,500 for an undergraduate student in CAES to participate in the college’s Undergraduate Research Initiative. The student’s research activity must be focused on emerging issues related to agricultural and environmental sciences.

The student recipient will communicate the results of his/her research at the annual UGA Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) Symposium.

How can I apply?

Students interested in the scholarship should contact CAES faculty and develop a brief research proposal in cooperation with a faculty member. The proposal should include:

  • an outline of the research to be conducted,
  • the significance of the research in addressing emerging issues related to agricultural and environmental sciences, and
  • a budget.

The entire proposal should be no more than 3 pages. Students should enroll in an undergraduate research course during spring 2008.

Proposals must be submitted by February 15, 2008 to:
