D.W. Brooks Lecture and Awards

Dr. Ron Walcott and the Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication Department received the 2016 D.W. Brooks Award for Diversity.

In addition to maintaining a broad and productive research program, Dr. Walcott served as the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences first Assistant Dean for Diversity from 2008 to 2013. Dr. Walcott's caring and relatable demeanor drew current and perspective students to explore agricultural sciences. During his time as Assistant Dean, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences increased its number of underrepresented students by 50%.

The Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication Department's Teaching with Animals course, led by Dr. Nick Fuhrman, help students improve their public speaking and presentation skills. Students teach Extra Special People, a group of children with special needs, about the wonders of wildlife, and in turn, they learn about themselves and the impact inclusivity can have on the lives of others.
