International Trade Internship: Brussels, Belgium

What is the International Trade Internship?

The Georgia Department of Agriculture and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia announce the co-sponsorship of a 10-week internship with the Department of Agriculture's International Trade Division European Office in Brussels, Belgium. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified students interested in obtaining practical work experience to better understand international trade, marketing and promotion, while supporting the European Office fulfill its mission to promote agricultural products from the State of Georgia.

What does the Brussels intern do?

The candidate will be directly involved in day-today operations of the European Office which include:

  • Providing assistance to importers and Georgia exporters
  • Producing and distributing market promotion publications
  • Developing trade leads
  • Attending and coordinating international trade shows
  • Act as a liaison between producers of Georgia agriculture and foreign buyers

Interns will be working with the European Office staff in conducting market research, report writing, maintaining a client data base, responding to requests for information and providing administrative support.

The internship will be an excellent opportunity for the accepted candidates to better understand the international agri-business arena while obtaining practical hands-on experience, developing working relationships and participating in a rich multi cultural experience.

When does this internship begin?

This 10-week internship begins immediately after spring semester for the summer of 2007.

Qualifications

Strongly recommended qualifications include:

  • active interest and basic knowledge of international affairs and international business
  • familiarity with standard office software.
  • knowledge of French (desirable but not required.)

Preference will be given to undergraduate students from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Financial aid

The internship will provide international airfare, lodging, and a modest per diem for meals and other living expenses.

Applications for Summer 2008 participation will be accepted beginning December 2007. Applications are due by February 2008. To apply, complete the following:

  2. Application Section II: Brussels International Trade Internship Statement of Interest
    Please submit a statement of interest including the following:
    • Your educational objectives for participation
    • Your qualifications for participating, including any previous and current involvement in international and cross-cultural activities (including foreign language proficiency, international travel, and international studies)
    • Your participation in college-level extracurricular activities and programs, including student clubs, community service, and any honors or awards received
  3. A brief sample of your writing (1-3 pages) from an essay, term paper, or report submitted previously as part of a class asignment or scholarship application.
