Fred C. Davison

Occupation: Practiced veterinary medicine in Marietta; taught in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, leading a research project for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission; assistant director of the Department of Scientific Activities of the American Veterinary Medical Association; dean of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine; vice-chancellor the University System of Georgia; president of the University of Georgia for 19 years; Fred C. Davison Chair of Veterinary Medicine.

Accomplishments: Under Dr. Davison's leadership, the University of Georgia became one of the strongest graduate and research institutions in the nation. The university's budget increased 400 percent; student enrollment grew by 70 percent; the number of faculty increased by 600; and programs for academically gifted students placed the university among the top schools in the nation in enrollment of National Merit and National Achievement Scholars and other honor students. He received honorary degrees from Presbyterian College, Mercer University and the University of New Brunswick. He serves on the boards of numerous professional, scholarly and honorary organizations.
