Thomas H. McHatton

• Born: November 12, 1883, Brooklyn, New York
• Died: May 15, 1956
• Honored: November 4, 1972

Occupation: Horticulturist at the Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin; head of the Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture.

Accomplishments: Dr. McHatton led the Department of Horticulture to include courses in landscape design, entomology and food science. His efforts led to the formation of the Departments of Food Science and Landscape Architecture, using horticulture faculty. He established the first student club in the College of Agriculture, the Horticulture Club, and was instrumental in the formation of the Garden Club of Georgia. He helped strengthen the Georgia Horticulture Society and served as president of the American Society for Horticultural Science. His research and extension activities stimulated commercial and amateur horticulture in Georgia and contributed to the prominence of the industry.
