Forage Systems For Goat Production
There is increasing interest in programs that provide a more comprehensive coverage of pasture and forage systems for goats. During the most recent Master Goat Producer program, a presentation entitled "Forage Systems For Goat Production in Georgia") was recorded live at the Univ. of Georgia's Livestock Instructional Arenda. It provides detailed information about designing pastures and forage systems for goats. It is divided into four 15-min. segments on YouTube. (Posted 8-15-11)
Harvesting Drought Stressed Corn for Forage
When faced with a severe and sustained drought, dryland corn may not produce enough grain to warrant harvest. Producers often ask what the options are for harvesting the drought stressed corn for forage. This video discusses the options for harvesting drought stunted corn and ways to reduce the risk of nitrate poisoning (georgiaforages031.mp4). (Posted 6-10-11)
Forage Systems For Horse Pastures
One of the most common requests that we have for programs is for doing a more comprehensive coverage of pasture and forage systems for horses. This video (georgiaforages028.mov) was shot at the most recent Master Equine program. Recorded live at the Habersham County Recreation Center, this presentation (entitled "Forage Systems For Horse Pastures") provides more information about designing pastures and forage systems for horses. About the 2010 Hay Production School
Our 2010 Hay Production School was a resounding success! Check out this video about the School and some of the work that we've been doing with "enhanced efficiency" N fertilizer products. Note: this video is sponsored by Agrotain International. (Posted 5-17-10)
Piedmont Forage and Grassland Council
The Piedmont Forage and Grassland Council met on March 23, 2010 in Pendleton, South Carolina. It was a very informative session that highlighted some successful production and grazing strategies. Presenters included two nationally renowned researchers in forage and grassland management, as well as two local producers that have been implementing excellent grazing management strategies. Georgia Forages: More than Just Green Space
Have you ever wondered how many acres of pasture and hayland are in Georgia? The fact is that over 4 million acres of pasture and hayland can be found in Georgia. That is more than the top 10 row and vegetable crops in our state COMBINED! In this presentation, I talk about how important this acres are to our environment and our economy. I go over some of the challenges that our forage-based livestock industries are facing. But, I also highlight some of the amazing opportunities that forage growers in Georgia have available to them.
