Cowpeas

Cowpea is a summer annual legume that makes a good short season green manure crop. It is a good nitrogen producer, fixing 40 lbs./A. Cowpeas tolerate heavy or light soils, but not flooding or overwatered soil. It tolerates a pH of around 6-7 and is less tolerant of alkaline conditions.

Seed 30-40 lbs/A. Late April-early May.
