Winter Pea

Photo: Winter PeaWinter pea is a cold-season vine legume. As a legume, it is tops at fixing nitrogen, up to 150 lbs of nitrogen per acre. Winter pea is also slightly alleopathic and makes a great addition to a forage mix with barley, oat or triticale. Winter pea prefers well-drained clay or heavy loam. It does not tolerate overwatering or drought. It has been known to have problems with disease.
