Agricultural & Applied Economics

Extension

Extension faculty provide economics education and applied research in areas of production economics and farm management, marketing, risk management, financial management, farm policy (commodity and conservation government programs), labor, and taxation.  Extension faculty are located in Athens and Tifton.  Dr. John McKissick is the Department’s Extension Program Coordinator.

Education and applied research programs are delivered to clientele through presentations at county, state, and national meetings, numerous publications, web-based materials, Powerpoint slide sets, and computerized decision-aids.  Commodity-specific program responsibilities include beef cattle, corn, cotton, dairy, fruits and vegetables, hogs, horticultural and green industry, pasture and forages, peanuts, poultry, soybeans, tobacco, and wheat and other small grains.

Some department extension faculty also provide extension and research programs through the Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development.  The CAED web site can be found here.

The Departments Extension programs and faculty have received numerous state and national awards and recognition in recent years.”
