Terry Centner was recruited by the Department to add a legal component to
the College's teaching and research programs. His teaching program involves environmental,
public health, and agribusiness law courses.
Professor Centner's research
program involves policy analyses of current issues confronting agriculture
and the environment. As summarized in a summary of selected
publications, this program involves scientific inquiry and investigation
of policy issues facing agriculture and the application of findings and recommendations
to enhance agricultural performance. As new challenges confront agricultural
production and marketing, he redirects his efforts to timely new topics and develops
new ties with scientists in other disciplines. In 2004, his book entitled Empty
Pastures was published by the University of Illinois Press.
Professor Centner's professional activities include memberships in law and economics
associations. He has been an active member of the American
Agricultural Law Association, serving as Secretary-Treasurer from 1985-87
and as President for 1992-1993.
International studies, research, and teaching have been a part of Professor Centner’s activities. He was chosen by the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung as a research fellow at the University of Goettingen, Germany. In 2002-2003, he was selected a Fulbright Senior Scholar to teach at the University of Mannheim.
