Agricultural & Applied Economics

Research

From marketing Georgia products internationally to helping farmers add value to their crops, UGA Agricultural and Applied Economics Department research projects focus on strengthening the production, marketing, management, environmental and resource economics, international trade, and agricultural policy of the agribusiness industry of Georgia.

AAE research projects emphasize risk and uncertainty, sustainability and conservation.  They also investigate producer response to changes in the economic environment, government policies, and technology.

Georgia commodity groups rely on UGA agricultural economists to respond to market opportunities and address market barriers. Research projects on value-added agriculture, the economics of agribusiness organizations and consumer economics are often conducted by the department’s Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development (CAED) under the leadership of Dr. John McKissick.

AAE researchers also study international agriculture problems including industrial organization, commodity marketing, and consumer preferences.  UGA agricultural economists also work on interdisciplinary research projects that address production economics and the interface between production activities and the environment.

For their efforts, AAE faculty are often recognized for their research accomplishments. Research programs address high priority areas needing increased economic intelligence.
