Q&A with International Agriculture Certificate Student: Carleen Porter

Carleen Porter had the experience of a lifetime interning at a state of the art Veterinary School in Perugia, Italy.

Carleen Porter, a fourth year Animal Science major, spent eight weeks at the University of Perugia Veterinary School in Perugia, Italy, fulfilling the internship requirement for the International Agriculture Certificate Program.

Q: How did you decide on this program?

A: Last spring, I was going to be part of a UGA-sponsored program in Verona for three months. I contacted Amanda Stephens (CAES Associate Director of Student Engagement) about adding on the certificate internship. Amanda was able to work with the UGA veterinary school to secure a veterinary internship at the University of Perugia.

Certificate Student Surveys Female Peanut Farmers in Mozambique

Emily Urban in Mozambique

Women play a substantial part in the production and processing of peanuts in many countries, so much so that peanut is sometimes called a ‘women’s crop.’

As part of her International Agriculture Certificate, Emily Urban helped craft questions about gender roles for a 400 household survey in northern Mozambique last month.
