Youth ages 9-18 can pursue their interest in poultry science prior to college through poultry judging and project achievement in the Georgia 4-H Livestock Program.
Poultry judging contests allow students to apply standards used in poultry and egg production and marketing to a realistic decision-making situation. Participants judge live specimens and market poultry, identify the parts of birds prepared for market, and evaluate egg quality and their readiness for market. Participants are also asked to justify their decisions, and compare their opinions to the ideals specified by industry experts.
