Late Fry

'Late Fry' was tested after we conducted most our trials, so we only really have observational data on it. So far, it has looked okay. It might fill the need for a late season bronze cultivar for the fresh market. It appears to have higher sugar content than its parent, 'Granny Val', but is not quite as late as 'Granny Val'. I only recommend trial plantings of this cultivar until we know more about it. Trial plantings by a grower in North Carolina indicate that 'Late Fry' is at least as susceptible to fruit rot as its parent 'Fry', and maybe more so. We have also seen a fair amount of fruit rot in our plantings. Based on this susceptibility I would be careful planting it if you have had trouble with rot on other cultivars like 'Fry'.
