4-H'ers - Protect Yourself When Posting on Social Network Sites

Georgia 4-H specialist Cheryl Varnadoe teaches youth to make wise decisions when posting information to social network sites like Facebook and MySpace. "Our kids are growing up in public. Youth create lasting records of their lives whenever they post something online,” she said. “In a world where anything can be copied, pasted, altered and distributed in the blink of an eye to a vast invisible audience, kids must understand that they hold the key to what kind of reputation they create for themselves.” Read this entire story Protect Yourself When Posting Information to Social Network Sites online from Georgia FACES.

Project S.A.F.E. Clay Pigeon Shotgun Club

The Columbia County 4-H Clay Pigeon Shotgun Club will be holding two orientation/enrollment meetings at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion (lower level), 3300B Evans to Locks Road, Martinez, GA, 30907. Those dates are Thursday, January 26, 2012 and Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 6:00 - 7:30 pm (if you need your Hunter Safety Card, please attend the January 31st meeting). Due to the nature of this 4-H special interest club, attendance is mandatory for both a parent or legal guardian and the team member/shooter. More information can be obtained from the New Member Orientation Meeting 2012 Flyer.

Yearly club fee is $140 and includes shells, clays, trophies and competition fees to attend district and state matches. This club fee can be paid at one of the orientation/enrollment meetings or to the 4-H Office located in the Savannah Rapids Pavilion. Please make payment in cash or check to: Columbia County 4-H Club. We cannot accept debit or credit cards. Registration deadline date is February 10, 2012.

The Shotgun Club has their own web site, www.cc4hsafe.info, where you can obtain further information on the Hunter Safety Education Course, upcoming events, club calendar, policies and procedures and the necessary forms for registration or download them here: 2012 Clay Pigeon Shotgun Club Membership Packet. Please bring these completed forms to the orientation/enrollment meeting.

The Hunter Education Course is offered on-line by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). It is mandatory that every Georgia 4-H shooting sports participant take the hunter education course and have a copy of the issued hunter education card on file with their respective county.

Please use this link - http://www.beasafehunter.org/ - to access the on-line course. Once at the Be Safe Hunter Education site, click on the "classroom" link. You will "click here to create a user name and password ". You must complete the on-line course and print the confirmation of completion. This is very important, remember to print your course completion confirmation form!

We are very lucky to have a DNR Officer that will come to the Savannah Rapids Pavilion on January 31, 2012 (after the enrollment meeting), administer the final test and issue the hunter safety cards. Bring your confirmation of course completion on 1/31/2012 so you can take the final test.
