Pickens County 4-H Hog Project-2010
PURCHASING PIGS
Pigs must be purchased from a validated and accredited herd
Ask extension service for a list of “reliable” breeders/sales for pigs
CARE OF SHOW PIGS
Pigs should be fed on automatic feeders with a well- balanced “grower” feed
Pigs should be supplied access to water at all times
PIGS KEPT AT PICKENS COUNTY LIVESTOCK FACILITIES
Hogs are to be seen about on a daily basis
Pens must be mucked daily with wet/dirty shavings and removed from barn
Trash (including feed bags) should be removed on a daily basis
Items being kept at barn must be in a safe/secure place and out of the way of other pig pens
If you are not able to see about your pig at any time, Mrs. Kirby must be notified
If you plan to be out of town, you must make arrangements with Mrs. Kirby prior to your absence
EXPENSES
State tags purchased by Pickens County 4-H
Health papers paid for by Pickens County 4-H-Volunteers will be need to assist vet
Entry fees will be paid for by 4-H’er
EQUIPMENT
Clippers will be checked out to 4-H’er prior to the need for clipping
Pickens County 4-H will purchase snare, wheel barrel, & hog boards
