Poultry Judging
Sound interesting? Well several students from Pickens County certainly thought so! They committed weeks of training to prepare for tough competition, then the Pickens County 4-H Poultry Judging team traveled to Dalton, Georgia to face other poultry experts and claim another victory. Pickens County was represented by four senior members and eleven junior members. Our senior team consisted of Katherine Kirby, Kasey Nolan, Clay Wilkie and Justin Fellenbaum. Junior team members were William Roper, Alice Kirby, Crystal Buckingham, Kristopher Nolan, Josh Fitts, Travis Painter, Hunter Harrington, Morgan Kellogg, Nina Dykes, Allyson Dean and Courtney Painter. Our senior team was presented the 2nd place award, which paved the way for a trip to the State Poultry Competition at the University of Georgia on May 4. Katherine was not only the leader of our senior team, but she was the 2nd high individual for the entire competition while Clay was 3rd high individual. Pickens junior team celebrated as 1st place winners. They were so pleased with their achievement! Junior member, Alice, lead this team to victory, posting the high score for the team and also 6th high individual for the junior contest. William received the 8th high individual award.
Congratulations to all who participated and good luck to our senior team. We would also like to say “Thank You” to Mrs. Kim Fitts for volunteering to help drive our team to the contest.
