What is 4-H....?

4-H is the world's largest organization for young people. 4-H teaches service, leadership, citizenship, and character education as well as providing students with a variety of in-school and out-of-school educational and fun opportunities.

Founded in 1904 to educate rural farm youth, today's 4-H reaches youth from all walks of life, helping them to develop their interests and abilities to their fullest through project work, club work, special activities and events.

4-H is the Youth Education Program of the University of Georgia (UGA). It is administered by UGA Cooperative Extension which is part of the UGA College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Who can join 4-H and how to join?

Appling County 4-H is open to all children ages 9-19. forestry

  • Cloverleaf 4-H Club - all students in the 5th and 6th grade. These students will be able to join at the beginning of each school year as part of an in-school club held during school hours.
  • Junior 4-H Club is made up of 7th and 8th grade students who meet monthly during school hours.
  • Senior 4-H Club is made up of 9th-12th grade students who meet AFTER school.
  • Pre-4-H Club is made up of students in the 1st grade through students 8 years of age. Pre-Club members participate in the Market Lamb, Hog and Goat Show programs.

If you have just moved to Appling County, please call the 4-H office at (912) 367-8130 to receive enrollment information. You can fill out an enrollment card that is located below unders "forms".

Georgia 4-H Centers

The University of Georgia 4-H Program has five centers for education located in different areas of the state. Each center offers 4-H Environmental Education and Summer Camp.
