National Radon Testing

If your civic group, church, or organization located in Cobb County would like to have a speaker on the subject of Radon, please contact Edda Cotto-Rivera, UGA Extension Radon Educator at 404-298-4072.

If your group wants a speaker on the subject of Natural Gas and understanding and reducing gas bills, call Vonsuela Baker, UGA Extension Energy Educator at 404-762-4077 for Natural Gas Education Programs.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the USA, after tobacco smoke. It kills nearly 22,000 people each year, 600 of them in Georgia. Radon is an odorless, invisible and tasteless gas released by the natural decay of uranium in our soils and rocks that easily enters our homes through the foundations and well water. Test your home today! You can prevent and reduce entry of radon into your home!

The Georgia Radon Education Program is a partnership funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency among the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Extension Service, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), and Southface Energy Institute to educate Georgians on actions to take to protect themselves from the risk of developing lung cancer caused by the unwelcome entry of radon gas in our homes. You may reach us at (770) 528-4090.

COBB COUNTY BREASTEST AND MORE PROGRAM:

Most of us have experienced or know someone who has been affected by the recent economy. Many people have lost their jobs and along with that their health insurance. Others may not be offered health insurance at their current jobs. UGA/Cobb County Extension may be able to help women get essential cancer screenings. If you are a female between 50 and 64 who lives in Cobb County, with no health insurance and low to no income, please call us for a BreasTest and More Coupon. We collaborate this effort with Cobb County BreasTest & More program that is part of Public Health. These coupons provide a low cost or no cost pap test and mammogram. Please call UGA/Cobb County Extension at 770-528-4090 if you think you or someone you know may qualify for these life saving coupons. During difficult times, encourage your friends and family to maintain good health. This is a good defense against illness, depression and many other medical problems. Let them know we want them in our lives for the good times to come.
