4-H for High School Students

Youth Involvement in community service projects, youth organizations and life skills training have been shown to reduce the teen pregnancy rate by 33% and school drop-out rate by 50% according to the Search Institute. The same studies indicate that youth in 6th-12th grades that are involved in community service are about half as likely to be involved in negative behaviors.

What is ΣΛΧ?

A leadership and service club for high school students.

Σ Sigma = Service

ΣΛΧ is a service club with an emphasis on giving service to our community and fellow citizens. We enjoy mentoring efforts to help build and encourage younger youth.

Λ Lambda = Leadership

Our club emphasis is leadership, organization and workforce preparation. Members participate in a variety of training activities and monthly meetings include this as a part of the program. Public speaking is a major focus.

Χ Chi = Citizenship

Our members have always been good citizens in the community as seen through our community activities, we show our pride for our community by helping in a variety of ways. You can help!

2007 College ToursWildlife and Forestry Judging — Learn how Georgia native animals survive. Learn tree identification, working a compass, tree diseases, insect identification, and measuring distance and volume. Become aware of your environment. Travel and compete to put your new learn for life!

Consumer Judging — Learn for life to make the best selection when choosing checking accounts and buying cargo pants, yogurt and cell phone plans and much more!

Project Achievement Competitions — County Project Achievement winners stay overnight at Rock Eagle 4-H Center for district competition. You might win another trip to State 4-H Congress! Portfolio Workshop  Learn to put together a record of your 4-H activity for the year.

4-H Summer Teen Leaders4-H Teen Leaders — Mentor and be a positive role model at Fall Festival, 4-H skating parties, officer training, camp & other events. Be a big brother or sister to someone who needs you.

Leadership Forums — Fall Forum is filled with activities including dances, youth rallies, motivational speakers 4-H Day at the capital, Citizenship Washington Focus and great workshops at Rock Eagle 4-H Center!  Youth Summits allow youth to come together from across the state to propose ideas and develop plans to help make Georgia a better place to live.

Service Learning Projects — Contribute your time and ideas to help others via Coat & Blank Drives, Literacy Efforts, Food Drives, Recycling Initiatives 

4-H at Capitol 02/09 4-H Day at the State Capitol — Visit the Georgia State Capital and see the inner workings of government while serving as a page for your senator or representative.

Senior Summer Camps — Enjoy overnight stays at one of several 4-H Centers. Swim, eat, attend workshops, dance, meet up with new & old friends. College Tours visit colleges and universities or get on track to preparing for college, admittance requirements, dormitory living and discovering the learning environment that works best for you. Natural & Conservation Resource Camp Scholarship opportunities are available in this special environmental camp, which occurs on a college campuses.

County Council — “The Power of Youth!” Make a difference in what you do and in the lives of others. Create a service project with elected youth board officers and help your community. State 4-H Council Campaign for state board member positions for leadership opportunity,  includes informative workshops, assemblies, parties, swimming, sporting events and good food.

Sigma Lambda Chi Socials — Having fun together. We plan it, we do it. Bowling, movies, pool parties, Six Flags, skating, eating, tubing, rush parties, Georgia National Fair, Hawk's Basketball,...the list goes on.

4-H 2008 Awards Night4-H Awards Night — Get recognized for all your DeKalb 4-H commitment and hard work. This is your time to shine for all your effort. This is a very special evening.

Financial Literacy & Workforce Preparation — Learn the importance of starting early with savings, investing and checking accounts. Learn to be the best at any career with business etiquette, tips for work success, career choices and opportunities.
