DeKalb County Extension Office:
Master Gardener Compost Demos
These seven sites are located around the county so that citizens have accessibility to them and so that people can actually come to a site to see how composting is done. Our goals are:
- To assist the DeKalb County Sanitation Department with the county's plan to reduce recyclable yard waste that was going to the landfill and filling up expensive landfill space
- To market the use of these materials to homeowners and green industry representatives
- To teach citizens how to process and use these green resources (compost, mulch) to improve their soils and to increase gardening success
- To improve our soils and soil structure so that water can penetrate thereby reducing the amount of soil erosion and water run-off that occurs in Metro Atlanta
