DeKalb Extension in the Community
DeKalb County Cooperative Extension strives very hard to work in the community by giving back to those in need. Here are just a few ways how:
- 4-H Cans Hunger
DeKalb County Cooperative Extension and Georgia 4-H have partnered together in a new statewide community service project in collecting canned goods for homeless shelters and local families in need. If you would like to help stop hunger, please visit our main office at 4380 Memorial Drive in Decatur to drop off your donations today! This is a new community service initiative for 2012. - Hope for the Holidays
DeKalb County Cooperative Extension and DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center have partnered to support the 8th Annual Hope for the Holidays Event. This celebration seeks to provide holiday gifts for foster children in DeKalb County who otherwise would not have a Christmas. - Toys for Tots
DeKalb County Cooperative Extension staff collected toys for children to help make the holiday season a joyous and special occasion. The 2011 holiday season was our first time working with this worthy non-profit organization. Countless toys and gifts were gathered and donated to bring smiles to many young faces during the holiday season. - Veteran's Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH Program)
DeKalb County Cooperative Extension staff donated hygiene products for the Veterans Assistance program. This program support veterans who maybe displaced or homeless and helps get them into transitional housing.
Excellence In Extension
Our office would like to recognize the following employees who have won awards and accolades for outstanding contributions in DeKalb County.
- Edda Cotto-Rivera
- DeKalb County Master Gardener's
The DeKalb Master Gardener projects and community gardens has earned DeKalb County the Green Communities Certification. DeKalb County was one of six communities to receive this award early December, 2009. This makes Dekalb County one of nine Certified Green Communities in the 10-county Atlanta region. Congratulations for your part in this, Master Gardeners!
