4-H Members Attend Ag Day at the Capitol

Fannin County 4-H members Sarah Allen and Tori Crandall recently participated in Agriculture Day at the State Capitol along with members of the Fannin County Extension staff and a Master Gardener volunteer. The group was also welcomed into Honorable House Speaker David Ralston’s office to discuss Fannin County 4-H and North Georgia agriculture.
After the visit with the Speaker, the group toured the Capitol and participated in Agriculture Day at the Depot. The group was able to visit with various agriculture exhibitors and learn about agriculture in Georgia and the many opportunities it offers to the citizens of Georgia. One of the exhibitors was the Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents, GACAA, of which Eddie Ayers is immediate past president. They even had the opportunity to visit with Governor Sunny Perdue before he presented the Conservationist of the Year awards.
They also learned about the Flavors of Georgia food competition. This competition is a state wide event that offers small producers of value added agricultural crops and commodities the opportunity to display their products and compete for honors. It was a very educational trip for the group.
