Atlanta Urban Gardening Program
Since 1978, the Atlanta Urban Gardening Program (AUGP) has strived to bring people from different economic, cultural, racial and generational backgrounds together through gardening. AUGP works in the community providing the opportunity for thousands of families to experience growing their own fresh vegetables. This gives people a chance to come together, work, grow and learn together.
AUGP supports the community by providing:
• Leadership training meetings
• Care Packages for soldiers
• Outreach programs
• Donating clothes to shelters
• Feeding the homeless
AUGP is always putting knowledge to work by teaching gardening to schools, churches, communities, therapy programs, day camps, summer camps, senior citizens' programs, colleges, universities and boys and girls clubs.
AUGP is a partnership of the Georgia Cooperative Extension in Fulton and DeKalb counties and local community groups. 4-H and Youth Development enhances the school curriculum and teaches life skills to youths between ages of 9 through 19 in Fulton County. Programs such as character education, preventing youth violence, leadership education, and environmental awareness is conducted in schools during and after school hours. These programs are also designed to assist youth in their educational growth and development.
