Gwinnett Extension Plant Sale * January 3 - March 16th. Some of the plants offered are blueberries, raspberries, figs, and crape myrtles. Culture and planting brochures are available. Pre-paid orders are being accepted now through March 16th. The pick up date is March 29th from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. Walk -A-Weigh Fitness & Nutrition * January 26th – March 1st - 10:30am to 12:30pm. Can't get motivated? Join us for exercise, learn healthy cooking and eating habits, and lose weight while attending. Cost for classes is $13 (exact amount in cash) for six weeks. The class will be held at the Centerville Community Center at 3025 Bethany Church Road in Snellville and is sponsored by Gwinnett Cooperative Extension Service. Tree care and selection for the homeowner * February 9th
Noon – 1:00pm. Become proficient in selecting and caring for your landscape trees and shrubs. Gwinnett County Cooperative Extension Conference Room. Cooking for a lifetime * February 10th - 10:00 to 2:00 pm. This class will be held at Gwinnett Technical College - Lawrenceville in building 100/ room 255. All women may attend this class, however, only women with no insurance or women who have never been tested, will receive a coupon for a free mammogram and a free pap test. A Fat Detective * February 17th - 12:00 to 1:00 pm at 750 South Perry Street, Lawrenceville - 2nd Floor Learning Center. Learn how to be "A Fat Detective" with Ines Beltran. In this program you will learn: How to properly weigh/measure food, how to keep track of your food intake, how to eat less fat and fewer calories. Recipe demonstration of Pork Medallions.

Proper pruning techniques for the home landscape * February 23rd -
Noon – 1:00pm. Don't commit crape murder! Learn appropriate pruning methods to keep your landscape healthy and attractive. Gwinnett County Cooperative Extension Conference Room. Soils and Composting * February 23rd - 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Shoal Creek Filter Plant, 1755 Buford Dam Rd, Buford 30518. The class will cover the importance of having soils that produce healthy plants and practical methods of composting. No charge, but register by Tuesday, February 21. Gwinnett County Extension Green Industry Update* March 13th - 8:00am to 3:15pm Building 100, Room 707, Gwinnett Technical College, 5150 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA 30043. The program will have speakers covering topics of interest to green industry professionals. Participants will receive five credit hours for pesticide applicator license in category 24 (ornamental and turf) and 4.5 credit hours for certified arborists. The cost is $10.00 per person. Cash or checks (made out to Gwinnett Cooperative Fund). No credit cards. Registration is required by March 8, 2013. Blueberry/blackberry/apple class * March 19th -
7:00pm – 8:30pm. This class will cover proper growing methods for blueberries, blackberries, apples, and other fruiting plants. There is no cost for this class. Nutrition Labels * March 30th - 12:00 to 1:00 pm at 750 South Perry Street, Lawrenceville - 2nd Floor Learning Center. Come and learn how to read "Nutrition Labels" with Ines Beltran.During this class you will learn to read and understand the nutrition labels and why this information is vital for weight control. Recipe demonstration of Marinated Vegetable Salad.

Learn what is Energy density, what makes a food higher in energy density? And, how foods with high or low energy density affect your weight? Ines Beltran will be your speaker. There will be a demonstration of Fresh Spinach Salad.

Making the right choices to reduce cancer risks * June 22nd - 12:00 to 1:00 pm at 750 South Perry Street, Lawrenceville - 2nd Floor Learning Center. "Making the right choices to reduce cancer risks." In this class, you will learn: How to reduce cancer risk, how to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, and how to save money when buying healthy food. Ines Beltran will be your speaker. There will be a recipe demonstration of Stir-fried sweet-and-sour chicken.
