Henry County Extension Office:
4-H Youth Development
Pop Tab LogoPop Tab Contest

Any group or individual can donate their pop-tabs to Henry County 4-H.

Every year Georgia 4-H gets each county to collect pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald house.  Each county then takes the tabs to Jr. Conference.  There they weigh the tabs and then honor the County that collects the most. Here in Henry County we are encouraging all of our Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, 4-H Clubs and county residents to participate in this community service.

Make sure to go ahead and turn in all the tabs you have collected by October 21, 2011 for the Georgia 4-H Competition at Jr. Conference, but keep collecting all year. Make your own container to collect the tabs. (Just remember to put Ronald McDonald House and Henry County 4-H on the box.)  Use your imagination on ways to get people to collect and donate the tabs.  When you submit your tabs to your 4-H Leader or the Henry County Extension Office, bring them in a sealed box or a gallon zip-lock bag (no jug containers please) and make sure your school and/or name is on the package.

Ronald McDonald House Facts!

The Ronald McDonald Houses provide a “home away from home” for families from all across the Southeast and beyond with seriously ill children being treated at one of the local area hospitals. The House relies on donations from the community and fundraising projects to help provide for the families finding refuge at the House. In 1999, The Ronald McDonald Houses initiated a Pop Tab Recycling Program, which not only raises additional revenue for their organization but also has a positive impact on our environment.

Individuals, schools, churches, businesses, and organizations from as far away as Dakota, Japan are pulling tabs for the Ronald McDonald Houses. This past year, Henry County 4-H collected 1051 pounds adding to the 17, 726 total raised by Georgia 4-H.

What Is the Pop-Tab Program?

Aluminum pop tabs are collected by volunteers of all ages and are recycled in exchange for money. The revenue generated goes directly to help families of seriously ill children who are guests at the Ronald McDonald House.

Why just the Pop Tabs and not the entire can?

Pop Tabs provide higher revenue from recycling centers and scrap metal dealers than regular aluminum cans because they are made from higher grade aluminum. Pop Tabs are also easier to store. They are cleaner and smaller than aluminum cans. They are easily collected and allow for individuals and organizations in a community to participate in a worthwhile fundraising effort. Everyone can make a difference!
