The College of Gardening?
Jonathan Swift had a character in "Gulliver's Travels" extol the virtue of making "two blades of grass to grow ... where only one grew before." Knowing and applying the laws that govern such growth is the abiding, driving motivation of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences faculty. What will make this plant grow better? How can it be guarded against insect or disease damage? What can improve and protect the soil and water it needs?
Fortunately, many of the same observations, questions and answers that benefit the state's farmers are of great value in home landscapes and gardens, too. UGA Cooperative Extension scientists, county agents and other staff members and volunteers work to provide the ever-advancing knowledge of CAES and other researchers to the Georgia people who delight in the natural wonder of their yards and gardens.
