2011-12 UGA Soil, Plant, and Water Laboratory Testing Costs

Soil Testing: $8.00

To collect soil for Routine Analysis:
Imagine a large “X” lying over the area you would like to analyze.  With a hand spade or soil probe, at all four points, center, several spots around the “X”, dig at least 4-6 inches, pull a small amount of soil, place in a bucket, stir and mix well.  Transfer at least a cup of the combined soil into a sandwich bag.  Bring to the County Extension Office.

The soil is submitted and the turnaround time is approximately one week.  The analysis will be electronically sent to the County Extension Office and will be printed and mailed or you will be notified, according to your specifications.

Water Testing: $17.50 (Basic Water Test for Mineral Content)

To collect water for Basic Water Test:

Draw water from kitchen faucet used most often for drinking.  Fill clean container with the first flush of water that comes from this faucet as if you were filling a drinking glass.

Water Testing – Bacteria (Testing for coliform and E coli bateria in drinking water).

Test kits available from our County Extension Office.  Kit contains forms and instruction on taking sample.  Also contains overnight shipping label.  Fee of $30.00 for test plus $10.00 for shipping label – total cost per sample is $40.00.  Mail same day sample is taken through UPS pick-up point.  Results back in 2 to 3 days.

Pond Water Testing: No charge

Pond water hardness can be tested for lime requirement free of charge through our Jones County Extension Office.

Forage Analysis for hay: $17.50

Contact Extension Office on getting representative sample taken.  Results back in 5 to 7 days.
