Testing Services

Soil and water samples are mailed to the Soil, Plant and Water Laboratory in Athens. The results are received in approximately 7 to 10 business days. Come by the Extension Office to pick up a soil sample bag or a container for your water sample.

Soil Sample

A routine soil sample will test for pH, lime requirements, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and manganese. The cost is $6.00 for farmers and $8.00 for homeowners. Click here for more information.

Water Sample

A basic water sample will test for pH, hardness and basic minerals. The cost is $17.00 per sample. Should you have your water tested? Cost varies depending on test.

Feed and Forage Samples

A basic feed or forage sample to evaluate the protein, moisture, NDF and nitrate is $15.00 per sample. Other test are available. The results are received in approximately 7 to 10 business days.

Forage samples can also be sent to the Georgia Department of Agriculture in Tifton. This is a free test that includes protein, moisture, fiber and nitrates. It takes approximately 3 weeks to receive the results.
