Basic Soil Testing: $8
To collect soil for Routine Analysis:
With a spade, trowel, auger, or soil sampling tube, take a thin vertical slice of core of soil from at least 10 – 20 different places in the area to be tested. Combine in a bucket, mix thoroughly together. Transfer at least a cup of the combined soil into a sandwich bag. Bring to the County Extension Office. One sample should represent no more than 15 acres. If more than one soil type is present within the sampling area, take a separate sample from each soil type and place in separate bags. Avoid sampling high and low spots, areas along roads, old fence rows, or fertilizer bands. Problem areas should be sampled separately.
The soil is submitted and the turnaround time is approximately one week. The analysis will be electronically sent to the County Extension office and will be printed and mailed or you will be notified, according to your specifications. A routine soil test will provide the following results:
- pH W Potassium (k) Zinc (Zn)
- Lime requirement (pH b ) Calcium (Ca) Manganese (Mn)
- Phosphorus (P) Magnesium (Mg)
- Other tests are available at additional costs.
