What Is 4-H?

4-H is part of the University of Georgia's Cooperative Extension Service in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. 4-H assists young people to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, and form attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society through "hands-on" learning experiences.

 

4-H Emblem

4-H Clover

The emblem is a four-leaf clover with the letter "H" on each leaf. The letters in the emblem represent; Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Use of the emblem is approved per regulations by the state 4-H office.

 

 

4-H Pledge

I pledge: My head to clearer thinking, My heart to greater loyalty, My hands to larger service, My health to better living, For my club, my community, my country and my world.

 

4-H Motto

Lumpkin County 4-H Offers Camp and Judging Events:

Clubs and Events

  • Monthly In-School Clubs - Monthly meetings with educational messages for approximately 600 students.
  • Summer Day Camp- 4-Hers are introduced to various activities including Yahoola Park, Challenge Course @ LCMS, many other outdoor activities are held in the month of June.
  • 4-H Summer Camp – Georgia 4-H  has 5 statewide 4-H camps, from Camp Wahsega in Dahlonega to Marine Resource Camp @ Jekyll Island check one out @ http://georgia4h.org/camp/

Judging Events

There are judging opportunities through several contests such as:

4-H offers independent learning experiences using Writing, Interviewing, Public Speaking, and Presentation Skills through Competitions at District Project Achievement (DPA) at Rock Eagle:

  • Cloverleaf District Project Achievement - 5th & 6th Grade
  • Junior 4-Hers District Project Achievement - 7th & 8th Grade
  • Senior 4-Hers District Project Achievement - 9th through 12th Grade

4-H has leadership opportunities designed to encourage youth to develop their leadership, organization, group discussion process and decision making skills.

Community Service Projects:

  • Annual Rabies Clinic – This community service project helps our citizens with low cost vaccinations for their Cats and Dogs
  • Gold Rush Parking – This community service project offers Handicap Parking for the festival.

Career Exploration Opportunities:

  • UGA Campus Tour - We explore the college life at UGA. Go Dawgs!Go Dawgs!
  • LCHS Career Day Exhibit – Local business owner’s setup exhibit for career opportunities
  • Agriculture Awareness Events – Exhibits for farming career opportunities
