WILLS AND ESTATE PLANNING AND LONGTERM CARE INSURANCE MEETING
Upson County Extension will have a meeting on May 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the Upson County Extension office. Cost is $5.00 per person to attend. Two speakers will be presenting a program on the above mentioned topics. This program will provide you with good information to help you make informed decisions on these areas. Call the Upson County Extension office by May 6th if you plan to attend at 706-647-8989. You will be able to pay at the door.

Congratulations to Nancy Jones, Chairman, District 3 and Emmitt Clark, District 1 newly elected County Commissioners. Larry Whitlock, Vice Chairman serves as Commissioner in District 2, Frank Buce in District 4, and Beth Neely, District 5. Meriwether County Extension wishes the Meriwether County Board of Commissioners much success in the coming days.

Soil Samples: it's that time of year again...Soil samples are still a bargain at $9.00. Bring your sample by the office and we will send it to the UGA Soil Testing and Plant Analysis Lab for analysis of your soil. We can now e-mail your results to you for quicker turn around time. With the temperature rising we are ready to get our hands into the soil and begin our gardens soon. I bet you can already taste that juicy vine ripe tomato. For information on gardening, fruit trees, flowers, lawns, and numerous other subjects stop by and pick up a wide variety of free bulletins at our office or call and we will mail those to you.
Water Samples are now $18.00. Routine mineral analysis of your water is available as well as other tests. Drop by for a container to take your sample. Stop by our office and check out our water quality series. This includes information on home water quality and treatment, testing for water quality, disinfecting your well water, etc.

To check for bacteria in your water, contact the Meriwether County Health Department/Environmental Health Division.

Arsenic and Uranium testing in water is now available.

Please contact our office for the proper sampling protocol and prices on your water samples.

CD's can now be checked out from our office so that you may complete lessons and modules to take your test for a private pesticide license. Upon completion you will print off your certificate and bring into our office for final paper work and mailing to the Department of Agriculture who will in turn mail you a license.

Please drop by our office to pick up a radon sampling kit for your home.

4-H Summer Camp sign-up is underway. See our 4-H Youth Development section for dates, cost, and camp locations. Look under events and activities.
- Meriwether County Junior and Senior 4-H'ers will be competing at Northwest District Junior - Senior DPA on March 11-13, 2011 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. A large number of competitiors are expected to compete from across the district and we wish Meriwether County participants much success.
