Volunteer Service Opportunities
Volunteers help keep our Morgan County Extension Office landscape beautiful. The "whiskey barrell" planter was recently revitalized by Master Gardener Stephanie Hudak. A big Thank you to Morgan County Master Gardeners for the many hours of maintenance and planning.
How Do I Become a Master Gardener?
If you want to learn more about gardening topics, the
Master Gardener program might be just what you're looking for. Master Gardeners are part of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.
Throughout the U.S., Master Gardeners trade hours of training for hours of volunteering on community garden projects. The Master Gardener program is a great way to learn and to meet other gardeners.
If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener in Morgan County, please call the Morgan County Extension Office (706) 342-2214.
The Georgia Master Gardener Program
This is a national volunteer training program offered through county offices of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension to Georgia residents interested in becoming Master Gardeners in their home county. Classes usually form either in the spring or fall. Through this program, individuals are trained and certified in horticulture and related areas.
These individuals, in turn, volunteer their expertise and services, under the direction of their Cooperative Extension Agent, to help educate others through horticultural projects that benefit the community. Master Gardeners bring the latest horticultural information and practices from the world of research to their communities’ landscapes and gardens.
Master Gardeners currently are active in many Georgia counties. For more information on the Georgia's Master Gardener Program select this link:
About Georgia Master Gardeners Association (GMGA)
GMGA is an independent non-profit association of Georgia Master Gardener Volunteers. GMGA membership is not mandatory in order to serve as a Master Gardener volunteer. Membership forms are available in each issue of The Scoop, the quarterly newsletter of the GMGA or on the Georgia Master Gardener Association web pages under GMGA Membership. Annual membership entitles Master Gardeners to receive The Scoop, the Georgia Master Gardener Association annual membership directory, and priority registration at GMGA conferences and events.
