Pesticide Safety, Training & Certification Information

Who needs to be certified as a private applicator? Anyone "who uses or supervises the use of any pesticide which is classified for restricted use." An applicator must be 18 years of age or older to be certified. The pesticide certification program is carried out jointly by Cooperative Extension and the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA). Your local Extension Agent is responsible for providing training and the GDA is the regulatory authority for licensing and enforcement.

  • Southeastern Hay Contest 2011, October 18-20; Sunbelt Ag. Expo, Moultrie, GA
    • To qualify for entry to the SE Hay Contest, the producer and submitting Extension Agent must complete the Contest Entry Form. This form, along with a $15 check made payable to UGA FEW Lab, MUST BE SUBMITTED SIMULTANEOUSLY to the Southeastern Hay Contest, Feed and Environmental Water Lab (FEW)
    • All Entries Must Be Received by the FEW Lab by: 5 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011.

  • New email updates on Georgia Forage management issues and specific recommendation from Dr. Dennis Hancock, Forage Extension Specialist, University of Georgia. His aim is to provide mass distribution of information through the GeorgiaForages.com website. However, you can sign-up for email messages which serve to highlight timely forage management updates (such as, early armyworm reports, seed availability/shortages, upcoming meetings, announcements, etc.). To sign up for these updates, click on the greenSign Up for Email Updates” button on the www.georgiaforages.com
    • Dr. Hancock has also started a new email notice program for participants in the Grazing Schools (GrazingSchool-L@listserv.uga.edu) and Hay Production Schools (HaySchool-L@listserv.uga.edu). Participants in these listservs (email notices) will receive information that is more relevant to them, as it will be targeting the topics specific to those schools and announcements about those upcoming events.
