4-H Youth Development: Judging Teams & Livestock Shows
By participating in a 4-H judging team or livestock show, youth develop their decision-making abilities, communication skills and learn responsibility. These youth attend practices at the 4-H office, then compete with 4-H'ers from other counties at a state contest.
Judging team members will learn how to evaluate and judge a certain subject through formal training. Another type of a judging team is called "Quiz Bowl." Quiz bowl teams will learn about the subject, and then compete in a game show style competition. Livestock show team members compete in defined events at local and state animal shows.
Oconee 4-H offers the following Judging Team & Livestock Show opportunities each year:
Summer: Forestry Judging, Lamb Show
Fall/Winter: Consumer Judging, Dairy Quiz Bowl, Horse Quiz Bowl, Commercial Dairy Heifer Show, Hog Show, Beef Heifer Show, Breeding Ewe Show, Steer Show, Goat Show
Spring: Poultry Judging, Dairy Judging, Horse Judging, Livestock Judging, Horse Show
