UGA Cooperative Extension

Spalding County Extension Office:
4-H Youth Development
4-H Quilting Beez Bumble Bee

General Info

Being a part of the 4-H Quilting Beez will teach skills that will stay with them throughout their lives.  Quilting isn't just about sewing. It's about knowing the types of fabrics, coordinating colors and fabric types, using sewing machines, hand sewing (great for when that button falls off), using scissors and/or rotary cutters safely, measuring and most of all having fun. Then in addition to this, quilting and sewing improves your math skills.

This club is for 4-H'ers of all ages and meets once a month at the 4-H Clubhouse.

You will work with other 4-H'ers to make community service projects such as small blankets to be taken overseas by our deployed troops for them to give to children of war torn areas. Some of them are taken to local US military hospitals in Iraq for the local children being treated there (mostly in the burn unit). Another community service we will be working on will be wheelchair lap quilts for nursing home patients in our area.

In addition to the community service projects we will work on items of interest to the
4-H'ers. These items may be given as gifts to family members or entered in the Spalding County Kiwanis Fair 2012. Those entries in the fair will be awarded ribbons and premiums.
