Spalding County Pop Tab Contest
Any group or individual can donate their pop-tabs to Spalding County 4-H.
Every year Georgia 4-H gets each county to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. Each county then takes the tabs to Jr. Conference. There they weigh the tabs and then honor the County and individuals who collected the most.
Here in Spalding County we are also having a contest to honor the 4-H’ers that raise the most tabs. The County Contest will run from April 2011 to the end of March 2012.
Make sure to turn in all the tabs you have already collected by October, 2012 for the Georgia 4-H Competition at Jr. Conference.
You can make your own container to collect the tabs. (Just remember to put Ronald McDonald House and Spalding County 4-H on the box) Use your imagination on ways to get people to collect and donate the tabs.
When you submit your tabs to the Extension Office or 4-H Leader, bring them in a sealed box or a gallon zip-lock bag (no jug containers please) and make sure your name, school, and grade are on the package. We will keep a tally of the pop-tabs weight each time you submit them.
What Is the Pop Tab Program?
Aluminum pop tabs are collected by volunteers of all ages and are recycled in exchange for money. The revenue generated goes directly to help families of seriously ill children who are guests at the Ronald McDonald House.
Why just the Pop Tabs and not the entire can?
Pop Tabs provide higher revenue from recycling centers and scrap metal dealers than regular aluminum cans because they are made from higher grade aluminum. Pop Tabs are also easier to store. They are cleaner and smaller than aluminum cans. They are easily collected and allow for individuals and organizations in a community to participate in a worthwhile fundraising effort. Everyone can make a difference!
