"Bus for Us" Campaign
Taylor County 4-H has been blessed with wonderful volunteers and support in this community. Our school superintendent, principals, teachers, commissioners, businesses, churches, other clubs, parents and students have all been essential in the success of the 4-H program in Taylor County.
As was highlighted last week, Taylor County can be proud of the accomplishments that have been made because of 4-H. But with growth comes growing pains.
We have several teams, boards, or committees that need to attend competitions and conferences. When we take large groups to events, we can use the school buses for which we are so grateful. The cost is then minimal to each rider. However, for example, when we take a smaller team of 10 or less to Jekyll Island for Senior Conference, it would cost each person over $80.00 just for the bus. This is not possible for most 4-H'ers, and it is not in the 4-H budget to be able to pay it either. Parents of most 4-H'ers are more that willing to help their children get to events, but many times due to work situations, it is very hard to get enough transportation. Therefore, we are in desperate need of a mini bus.
Many commented that 4-H has given so much to Taylor County, and if the community was made aware of the need, Taylor County would rise to the occasion and be more than willing to help. Our goal is to raise enough by the first of the year to have a down payment for the bus, even though the fund raising may need to continue throughout the year.
4-H'ers will be helping with this effort as well. They will be doing car washes, bake sales, doughnut sales, discount cards, and much more. 4-H volunteers, staff, and 4-H'ers themselves will be putting much effort into our "BUS FOR US" Campaign, but we also need you! If you personally, your business, club or organization is willing to help Taylor County 4-H with a tax deductible donation, Taylor County 4-H'ers would be grateful.
