What is Project Achievement?

Purpose: Project Achievement provides an out-of-county educational experience and gives recognition for outstanding accomplishments in 4-H work. 4-H'ers select a project area that interests them. They then select a specific topic within that project to research and learn about. They then develop this interest or hobby into a demonstration including a speech with visual aids. Junior and Senior 4-H'ers must also develop a record book of supporting material that documents their project work throughout the year.

Objectives:dpa

  • To acquire an understanding of subject matter in a given project area.
  • To develop skills in researching, assembling and presenting information.
  • To stimulate interest in continuing project work through 4-H experiences.
  • To provide opportunities for 4-H members to develop and enhance qualities of integrity, sportsmanship, cooperation, poise and self-confidence.
  • To help 4-H members develop skills in leadership and communication.

Project Achievement Builds Student Achievement.

PA Rocks This 8 minute video describes the Project Achievement process, explains the connection to the performance standards and provides testimony from both state and local school officials. In the words of State Board of Education Chair Wanda Barrs, “As a former 4-H’er, I can testify to the fact that 4-H Project Achievement helped prepare me for work and leadership in the 21st century. In this brief video, you will see how this simple teaching strategy can powerfully impact student achievement.”

4-H Project Achievement is a cornerstone in the Georgia 4-H program. From the first Boys Corn Club sharing their crop to today's presentation and portfolios on hundreds of projects, Project Achievement serves to showcase 4-H'ers work and success. Its relevance today has never been greater as educators across the state are discovering its significance in relation to the English Language Arts Georgia Performance Standards.
