Project SAFE Shotgun Wraps up Successful 2011 Season and Gives Back to Tornado Victims
The Toombs-Vidalia 4-H Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) Program recently finished its fifth year of competition. The program is curriculum based and designed to assist young people in personal development, establish a personal environmental ethic and explore life-long vocational and recreation activities. In 2011, the team competed in the Southeast District Qualification Match with eight members advancing to the State match.

Junior team members were: Will Brown, Emily Earls, Matt Hadley, Dylan Harden, Landon James, Lili Hester, Dalton Ridgdill, Trenton Stephens, Seth Todd and Chase Williams.
Senior team members were: Ethan Brown, Tyler Chancey, Ryan Copeland, Katie Earls, Meghan Hadley, Nick Hester, Seth Moser, Kassie Rivers, Christopher Warren, Kimberly Warren and Mitch Williamson.
Team members Will Brown, Tyler Chancey, Katie Earls, Matt Hadley, Seth Moser, Dalton Ridgdill, Seth Todd and Mitch Williamson advanced to the State competition.
At the State Competition held May 7, 2011, the top performers were Senior members Seth Moser and Mitch Williamson and Junior member Dalton Ridgdill.
While at the State Competition, team members sold Vidalia Onions as a team fundraiser and gave a portion of the proceeds to fellow 4-H programs in counties affected by the recent tornados which swept across Georgia. The team thanks M&T Farms for helping make this fundraiser and donation to tornado victims possible.
2011 team coaches were David Garrett, John Hadley, Wendell Harvey, Jamason Odom and Dover Williamson. The Toombs County 4-H Program is under the coordination of Cheryl Poppell, Extension Coordinator and Lesli Garrett, 4-H Program Assistant.
2010 Toombs County 4-H Shotgun Team 
4-H’ers who competed were: Ethan Brown, Will Brown, Ryan Copeland, Chase Corbin, Emily Earls, Katie Earls, Anthony Gibbs, Meghan Hadley, Nick Hester, Seth Moser, Caleb Parker, Trenton Stephens Christopher Warren, Kimberly Warren and Mitch Williamson. Caleb Parker and Christopher Warren were the top shooters on the team at our Area District Match hitting 25 of the 25 clay targets. Parker and Warren then proceeded to the doubles round to determine individual winners in the district.
Team members Ethan Brown, Katie Earls, Nick Hester, Seth Moser, Caleb Parker, Christopher Warren and Mitch Williamson advanced to the state competition.
2010 Project S.A.F.E. Certified Coaches were David Garrett, John Hadley, Wendell Harvey and Dover Williamson.
