The Georgia Nutrition Committee for National Defense was formed in 1940 as a non- profit organization. The name was changed in 1950 to Georgia Nutrition Council (GNC). Its mission is to bring together professionals from all fields of nutrition and food science in an effort to promote awareness of current nutrition issues and research related to the health and well-being of Georgians. It is composed of citizens, business leaders, and professionals concerned with nutrition.
The Objectives are:
- To promote and provide nutrition education
- To foster an awareness of current nutrition research objectives and results.
- To provide leadership in addressing nutrition issues related to the well-being of people.
- To serve as a source of nutrition information.
- To encourage graduate study in nutrition, food science, dietetics, and related fields.
