Georgia Youth Organizations

Georgia 4-H

Founded in 1904 in Newton County, Ga., as a countywide boys' corn club, 4-H is now the state's largest youth organization with more than 180,000 members in Georgia, and more than 6.8 million in the United States.

Logo: 4-H cloverGeorgia 4-H'ers learn by doing. More than 300,000 times per year, 4-H'ers in Georgia select an individual project for study. Projects range from poultry and animal science to communication and consumer education.

4-H also offers international exchange programs with students in Japan, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Latin America, Asia, Africa and elsewhere.

Future Farmers of America

The National Future Farmers of America Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education and local FFA chapters.

Student members prepare for careers in agricultural marketing, processing, communications, education, horticulture, production, natural resources, forestry and agribusiness.

The FFA was organized nationally in 1928 in Kansas City, Mo., by agricultural education students who had formed local and state organizations that dated to 1917. In 1950, Congress granted the FFA a federal charter. Today, there are more than 7,300 chapters in 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam and Rota. FFA chapters are established in public schools and have more than 457,278 members.
