Beekeeping Institute May 29-31 at Young Harris

University of Georgia

For people who want to learn about beekeeping, the 12th annual Beekeeping Institute May 29-31 in Young Harris, Ga., is the biggest, most comprehensive event in the Southeast.

The institute offers classes and workshops for beekeepers at all levels of experience. It includes the annual honey show, with cash prizes for the winners.

On the Young Harris College campus, the first day is set aside for training and certification exams for the Master Beekeeper Journeyman level and the Welsh Honey Judge qualification.

Friday and Saturday will feature beginners' and experienced tracks of lectures and workshops. Daily events begin at 8 a.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. A $105 fee (or $65 for one day) covers the cost of lectures, classes and activities. Registration fees also support the Georgia Master Beekeepers Program. Further fees are required for certification programs.

The institute is limited to 150 participants. To register or learn more, contact Keith Delaplane at (706) 542-9034. Or go to the Web site: http://www.ent.uga.edu/bees/. Click on "2003 Beekeeping Institute" to get the agenda or registration form.
