Rock Eagle event introduces visitors to stream dwellers

As the summer winds to a close, cool off and learn about the environment through a stream walk Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Ga.

During this month’s Saturday at the Rock event, participants will use dip nets to collect and identify organisms, including a variety of macroinvertebrates, found in the headwaters of Rock Eagle Lake. Fish, salamanders, turtles, crawfish and tadpoles may also be seen.

Sessions are appropriate for all ages and cost $5 per person. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and includes admission to Rock Eagle’s Natural History Museum.

Advanced registration is required. For more information, contact Matt Hammons at (706) 484-2862 or mhammons@uga.edu.

Saturday at the Rock programs are set for the third Saturday of each month, excluding December. A complete list of sessions may be found at www.rockeagle4h.org/ee/community/SaturdayattheRock.html.
