Making Life Better
Animal Science Major
Red and black aren't just colors Alexis Galambos wears, like the horses she rides aren't just animals she pets occasionally.
"The only thing I've wanted to be longer than a dawg is a vet," Alexis said.
She's hoping to translate her love of horses into a career as a large animal veterinarian.
Around the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences' Athens campus, you might recognize Alexis by the red polo she wears occasionally. Besides spending her time studying for science courses on her way to vet school, the animal science major is also a CAES Ambassador.
As an ambassador, she is the face of CAES. She helps with student recruitment and college-related activities, whether it be welcoming faculty and staff at an ice cream get-together or helping with registration at the annual student welcome-back party.

Q&A with Alexis
What made you choose to attend UGA?
When I was little, I came up to Athens to visit my great-grandfather at the law school. Even then I knew that the campus was beautiful. I also came up to a couple of games, which is probably what sealed the deal. I loved the atmosphere and spunk of Athens.
How many times have you changed your major? What made you settle on your current major?
What exposure did you have to agriculture before coming to CAES?
What's your favorite class and why?
Animal dairy science was my favorite class because I got to do so many hands-on things with animals.
Which CAES instructor has been the most influential?
What's the most important thing you've learned this year?
What's one thing you're always sure to take to class?
A notebook. If I don't write it down, I'm not going to remember it.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully in vet school, getting ready to go out there and treat large animals!
What's the strangest or coolest thing that's happened to you at UGA?
Favorite thing to do outside class:
Hang out with friends.
Best advice for incoming freshmen:
One thing about yourself that sets you apart:
I'm honest, but I manage to do it with a sense of humor.
