Web Team: Contribute Resource Guide
Importing Content
Importing content allows you to reproduce the content of your documents in your Web site without recreating the same content. For programs like Microsoft Word and Excel, you can simply drag-and-drop your content into Contribute or copy the document content and paste it into your Contribute site.
Drag and Drop Content
With Windows-based computers, you can integrate content from a document into your Web site simply by dragging the document into an editable Contribute page.
To drag and drop content, follow these steps:
- Browse to the page where you would like to import your content, and click Edit
- Place your cursor and click where you want to import your content
- To get to the document you wish to import, click restore down in Contribute (the middle box in the upper right-hand corner)
- Then move the Contribute window so you can see the file on your desktop. (If the file is not on your desktop, you can find the file and open the folder containing it from here.)
- Click on your file and drag it into Contribute's document window. You should see a cursor appear when you do this. Make sure the cursor is where you want it, and release the mouse button
- Sellect Insert Contents, then click "OK". Your computer will pause to process the request
- The content from your document should now appear inside your Web page
If your document file is not accessible from your desktop, it may be easier to use the Insert command.
To use the Insert command, follow these steps:
- Browse to the page where you wish to import content, and click Edit Page
- Place your cursor and click inside the page where you would like the imported content to appear
- Choose Insert, and select Microsoft Office Document
- From the Open dialogue, browse to the file you wish to import and click Open
Note:
Copy and Paste Content
In some cases, it may be easier or more efficient to copy and paste your content into Contribute, rather than dragging and dropping. This method will also allow Macintosh users to import content, whereas the dragging and dropping option is unavailable for those users.
To copy and paste content, follow the steps below:
- Open the document that you would like to copy into Contribute
- Highlight the portion of the document you would like to copy into Contribute
- Click on Edit, then Copy
- Now open Contribute and browse to the page where you want to paste your content
- Click the Edit button and place the cursor and click where you want to paste your content
- Click edit, not Edit Page
- Then choose Paste
- The text you highlighted in your document should now appear in your Contribute site
